We are delighted to announce that WYAS Bradford will be reopening to the public at Margaret McMillan Tower from Monday 30 June when our enquiry and copy order services will also resume.
We have appreciated the support and understanding of researchers during our recent closure. During this time we have been working hard to prepare the collections for the move out of MMT to a new location. Whilst this work is ongoing, we are now in a position to offer a restricted public service on Mondays and Tuesdays for the remainder of 2025. Please be aware that on the days we are not open to the public, we will be continuing to work very hard in the background to prepare the collections for their move to a new location next year.
For more information see our Bradford Page
The West Yorkshire Archive Service’s Kirklees office will be closing to the public on 4 August 2025. This will allow us to prepare Kirklees’ archive collections for moving into their new home in Huddersfield’s Our Cultural Heart. Our new purpose-built archive facility will be part of the exciting new Huddersfield library which is due to open in 2026.
During this period of closure, our archivists will carefully and systematically prepare the tens of thousands of boxes/loose items from the Kirklees’ archives. The move to the new environmentally controlled facility will make sure we can preserve our irreplaceable local history for many more years to come.
Any researchers seeking to consult the Kirklees archive collections in the near future are encouraged to book an appointment with the service prior to the 4 August 2025.
Following the closure we will be offering a restricted remote enquiry service limited to essential enquiries only to minimise disruption to the essential work to protect the archive collections. For further information please contact kirklees@wyjs.org.uk / 0113 535 3030
Please note the Kirklees office will also be closed on the following dates:
2nd - 3rd June; 16th - 17th June; 30th June-1st July and 14th - 15th July
