Calderdale Collections

The Calderdale Collections include:

  • Archives of local businesses, trade unions and friendly societies
  • Records of local industrial and commercial activities including textiles, banking, brewing, clay and brick making, clock making, coal mining, printing, stone quarrying and wire manufacturing
  • Family and estate records including the world famous UNESCO award winning diaries of Anne Lister of Shibden Hall (1806-1840)
  • A variety of solicitors' collections including the papers of Robert Parker, an 18th century Halifax attorney, which contain some of the only material surviving about the activities of the infamous Cragg Vale Coiners
  • Records of the Halifax Antiquarian Society and the Halifax Choral Society
  • Local authority records, including Calderdale Metropolitan Borough Council and its predecessor bodies
  • Large quantities of nonconformist church records
