WYTSS is receiving a high volume of complaints currently regarding covid 19 related trading practices. Consumers wishing to report shops, pubs, café and other premises for trading during covid 19, when in fact they should closed, should call either their local council’s environmental health team or report the matter to the Citizens Advice Consumer Helpline 0808 2231133.
In addition, consumers wishing to report shops for over charging and pricing hiking should call the Citizens Advice Consumer Helpline 0808 2231133. Further general consumer advice can be found at www.gov.uk/consumer-advice.
Please note - WYTSS has no powers to set or otherwise regulate the price of goods – shops must display a selling price or unit price inclusive of VAT (if applicable) for goods, and charge that price to consumers. However, WYTSS has no powers that relate to determining the actual selling price of goods and therefore retailers are permitted to increase and decrease prices as they see fit.
