Heritage Statements

As part of the National Planning Policy Framework, it is advised that planning applications that affect a heritage asset are supported by a Heritage Statement. From a planning perspective, heritage assets include the following:

  • Listed Buildings;
  • Conservation Areas;
  • Scheduled Monuments;
  • Registered Parks;
  • Gardens and Cemeteries;
  • Registered Battlefields;
  • Undesignated heritage assets (details of which are held in local Historic Environment Offices).

The level of detail included in Heritage Statements

The level of detail included in a Heritage Statement will depend upon the significance of the heritage asset affected by the development proposal. Typically, Heritage Statements include the following:

  • A summary of consultation with the local Historic Environment Record, including historic maps;
  • Details of any listed building (including its grade and historic fabric) and conservation areas;
  • Photographic evidence of the site;
  • Details of any archival research.

Why choose us to produce Heritage Statements

Typically we are engaged by heritage and archaeology consultants to produce Heritage Statements on their client's behalf. Where an application site includes, or is considered to have the potential to include, heritage assets with archaeological interest we have the capability to produce Desk Based Assessments and Geophysical Surveys to support the planning application.
