We routinely carry out investigations in advance of major infrastructure projects and substantial developments.
One such project was a considerable residential, retail, office and light industrial development close to Flass Lane, near Castleford, including a new highway link from Cutsyke Road through to Whistler Drive.
We excavated an area of 35 hectares and identified an Iron Age or Roman trackway, several field systems and an enclosure associated with Roman pottery. A single adult burial was also recovered, as well as a number of Roman brooches.
Whilst working on this project, our team were able to utilise specialist equipment to take elevated photographs of the site which were used to supplement the existing record of archaeological features and landscapes. Elevated photography not only helps us to gain a better understanding of a site and its archaeological history – but it also allows us to share great pictures with our clients and other interested parties.
By providing a large team of archaeologists at short notice, we were able to hand back the site to the client in plenty of time for their development to progress as planned.
