West Yorkshire Materials Testing Service
Laboratory Technician Post Ref: WYJS:021-13
Salary Scale: WY02, £13,874 to £15,444
37 hours per week, temporary contract, commencing August or September


West Yorkshire Materials Testing Service is seeking to appoint a laboratory technician to work within its laboratories at Morley.


The primary role will be to carry out chemical, physical and flammability tests on textile products and appropriate training will be provided.


Applicants ideally should have 4 GCSEs minimum Grade C including English and Mathematics or 2 years relevant experience. Knowledge of textile materials would also be desirable. This is a one year appointment to cover for the current post holder covering maternity leave for a Technologist.

Education & Community Engagement Officer (Level 2)

Salary Scale: WY05, £19,621 to £21,519
37 hours per week
Temporary in the first instance for 12 months


We have an exciting opportunity within West Yorkshire Trading Standards for an enthusiastic, hardworking individual. The post involves the delivery of a number of financial education programmes in West Yorkshire's five districts to a range of age groups including both young people and adults, and front line staff from agencies working with those groups. The successful applicant also work on a range of initiatives linked to Trading Standards, Archives, Archaeology and Ecology Services


Applicants should have experience of working on community projects focussing on financial capability, partnership working and engaging with young people and adults who are financially excluded. Excellent communication, organisational and presentation skills are essential and experience of delivering training sessions to front line workers who work with communities would be a distinct advantage. The post will involve travelling to destinations across West Yorkshire and therefore a full driving licence and access to a car is therefore essential.


The post holder will be required to attend appointments throughout West Yorkshire and therefore a driving licence and access to a car are essential.

Work placements


West Yorkshire Joint Services provide varied services delivered by a wide range of different professionals: both in the front line of service delivery (archivists, archaeologists, chemists and other scientific disciplines and trading standards officers) and in supporting roles (general and financial administration and ICT)


West Yorkshire Joint Services are committed to promoting careers within the professions employed to deliver their services. As part of this West Yorkshire Joint Services can offer students a one or two week work placement.


Placements are offered to those who would like to gain experience in one of the fields West Yorkshire Joint Services has to offer. It will give the student some idea of what the job would be like and the chance to see how their skills need to be developed before doing that job.


West Yorkshire Joint Services can offer placements to students aged 16 years or older.


To apply for a placement, students need to make a request in writing, outlining their experience, detailing why they wish to undertake it and what they envisage getting out of a placement. It may be useful to discuss a placement with a manager in a Service area prior to making an application. This can be arranged via Human Resources (see contact details below).


In order to administer requests for work placements fairly, applications need to be received by the dates detailed below:
