Salary: WY04 £18,870 - £20,541 FTE (£7,548 – £8,216 pro rata)
West Yorkshire Ecology Service (WYES) is seeking a part-time Ecological Records Officer to work at their office in Morley. The current position is initially for six months, to cover a period of maternity leave, but may be extended for a longer period as a job share with the existing Ecological Records Officer.
The successful applicant will be expected to maintain and enhance the computer and paper-based records of WYES and provide information to enquirers, both professional ecologists and members of the public, working to tight deadlines. They will also help support groups and volunteer recorders. They may be asked to carry out or assist in ecological surveys.
Applicants must have at least one year full-time or equivalent relevant work experience; an understanding and knowledge of UK ecology; be IT literate and have good GIS skills. A flexible approach to work but good attention to detail and accuracy are important characteristics. Ideally you will have a degree in ecology or a related field, have experience of working with amateur naturalist groups and hold a full driving licence.
West Yorkshire Ecology Service (WYES) is the ecological records and information service for West Yorkshire and provides advice on nature conservation, biodiversity and other ecological matters. The post is supported by five West Yorkshire district authorities, Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, Leeds and Wakefield. The area has a diverse range of habitats from the South Pennines in the west to the Southern Magnesian Limestone in the east, something to inspire everyone.
