May and June 2017

Wednesday 3rd May

Brilliant Bookbinding workshop

A beginner’s session where you can have a go at traditional bookbinding techniques and try your hand at Japanese stab binding and make and take home your own handmade blank notebook.

Booking required, 10am – 3pm

Bring own lunch, refreshments will be provided.

£20 per adult


Thursday 18th May

Your Archive Needs You – Museums at Night

Come and explore WYHC after hours and discover how the people of West Yorkshire lived in the First World War. There will be music, poetry, games, crafts and vegetable planting as you try out some of the ways people helped the war effort and kept up morale.

Insight into Archives

Join us for our monthly lunchtime talk series where we explore history and heritage through archives. Please see our website for more details.

Family friendly craft activities inspired by our archive collections on Holidays at Home in West Yorkshire.

History Wardrobe presents Great War Fashion

Join author and costume historian Lucy Adlington for this inspiring insight into the lives and aspirations of women in the First World War, as revealed through their clothes.

Booking required, 6.30pm-8pm

Not suitable for under 12s, refreshments will be provided.

£12 per adult



How to find us

West Yorkshire History Centre is a 300m walk from Wakefield Kirkgate Train Station.


It is situated on the A61 road with bus stops within a short walking distance on both sides.


Disabled Parking is available onsite.


The WMDC car park on Brunswick Street is pay and display (£2.50 per day) and offers free parking after 6:00pm.
